Our Story
Marc & Peter
The Silver Roofs Foundation is dedicated to the memory of Marc Anthony Pacyga, a man who lived a life inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ. Marc's journey was tragically cut short on November 18, 1993, but his legacy of love and compassion continues to inspire us every day.
Marc's elementary school years began an extraordinary friendship with Peter Bouley, who was born with severe birth defects, including one finger on one hand and underdeveloped legs from the top of his knees, requiring him to use a wheelchair. Marc was a tall and strong young man at 6’, and never hesitated to carry Peter in and out of the car, ensuring he never missed out on school and church activities with friends and family. This selfless love for others was deeply rooted in our Christian upbringing.
Our family's faith journey began with my (Bill) grandfather, a man of strong belief in Jesus Christ. He passed this faith to my mother, Joyceann, who, in turn, shared it with Marc and me through Bible readings and prayers. My mother married my stepfather, Walter, in 1968, who embraced us—Bill (me) and Denise—as his own. Four years later, we welcomed our baby brother, Marc Anthony Pacyga, into our blended family.
Growing up in a blended family had its challenges, but facing them with a Christ-like attitude and love helped us grow. In 1993, Marc and I channeled our entrepreneurial spirit into a business that aligned with our values and the global environmental cause—the Montreal Protocol. Our work involved recovering ozone-depleting substances, ensuring compliance for contractors on demolition sites.
On my birthday, November 18, 1993, Marc and I were working on a Mall that was under reconstruction when the demolition company started work a day early. Tragically, a concrete roof collapsed, taking Marc's life as he stood beside me.
Marc’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, especially in Peter's. Today, Peter leads a fully functional life—he is a graduate of Clemson University, he is married to Suzette, has a full-time job, drives a car, owns a house, and maintains an incredibly positive attitude. Peter remains a cherished part of our family, a testament to the enduring impact of Marc's love and friendship.
“Marc loved everyone who dared to get in his way”.
